365 days!

We celebrated our one-year anniversary in Hanoi. It was a pretty mellow day, with a trip to the Temple of Literature (pictured below, I think that is the only pic of us from that day) and a lazy lunch.

We decided we wanted to go out and have a romantic evening... we started with a great dinner and wanted to check out this jazz club we had read good things about. After wandering around the area where the club was supposed to be, we finally happened upon an abandoned building. It was out of business. :( There went our idea of a "night out on the town."

We wandered around some more and decided to go to the night market. We weren't really interested in shopping so we just kind of drifted ... until we decided to do something spontaneous and silly! We decided we wanted to make our cheeks hurt as much as they did on our wedding day (from smiling all day!). Who knows, we might have started a new tradition!

We sat smiling for 20 minutes while this guy drew our faces.

We watched him do a few other people first. We liked his work and thought he would do pretty good job... until we realized that he must be better at doing Asian faces than Western faces. Ours came out ... um... well, we came out a little funny, with Luke looking especially troll-like, but it was definitely memorable. We'll see if this sketch makes it all the way home, if not we at least have a photo of it.

We got a very sweet email from our family up in Boise with this awesome picture. Thanks guys!!
