We met up with Ryan, a friend of a friend (thanks Pat!), who lives in Phuket. It was great to cruise around town with a local and get off the typical tourist path. We stayed at his girlfriend's family's lovely resort.

Hit up the local scene at the night market. Pad thai ingredients in a bag (to cook at home) for 30 baht and tasty fried potato slices on a stick - yum!
